Bakehouse 1906 is based in New York City and is owned and operated by Amy Chen Cook, who has always loved the sweeter things in life. Growing up in a household that didn’t have many sweets, Amy and her brother always found themselves looking up recipes and taking on the duty of making dessert for family gatherings. Back in January of 2012, Amy went in search of affordable and useful (read: edible) favors for her mother’s birthday luncheon. Not finding anything suitable, she decided to take matters into her own hands and create individual banana breads for each guest to take home. Each was beautifully wrapped with a lavender sprig for a personal touch. They were a huge hit and, from that party alone, she received numerous requests to provide special, customized favors for other events. Just like that, Bakehouse 1906 was born.
